Geographic location
The Macau Special Administrative Region is a part of China’s territory. It is located on the Southeast coast of China to the bank of the Pearl River Delta. It borders the Zhuhai on the northern and locates 40 nautical miles from Hong Kong.
Macau has an area of 27.5 sq. km, comprised of the Macau Peninsula, the islands of Taipa and Coloane. The three bridges connecting Macau Peninsula to Taipa are Nobre de Carvalho, Sai Van Bridge and the Friendship Bridge. Islands of Taipa and Coloane are connected by causeway (also known as Golden Road). The Venetian (Macau) Hotel, Galaxy casino, S.A. and other international Hotels are headquartered right here. Macau is the one of the three Global Gambling Central, so Macao is called “Eastern Monte Carlo” and “Asian Las Vegas”.
Population ratio Macau is one of the most populous area of the World, which has about 20 thousand people living per sq. km. The Macau peninsula has a population density of 50 thousand people per sq. km. According to the 2nd quarter 2005 statistical data produced by the DSEC, the total population was estimated to be 476,000. About 95% are Chinese and remaining 5% includes Portuguese and immigrants from other countries.

Economic development Macau’s economics mainly compose of Tourism & Gaming industry, Exportation Manufacturing industry, Financial industry and Real Estate & Construction industry. From 1982 to 1996, the expenditure-based Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Macau registered real growth of 79.77 million dollars to 593.37 million dollars. In 1996, the total value of Gross National Product (GNP) is 170 thousand US dollars. It was the top five in the country of Asian and is listed as one of the highest income country (average income per person) by the World Bank. Macau’s economic has rapid growth after its returning to China since 1999. Its GDP in 2004 has increased 30.1% compared with last year.
